Lenin Castillo needed to be stretchered out of the ring and was taken to hospital after struggling a dramatic knockout defeat to Callum Smith at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.
The Dominican Republic fighter required therapy following a heavy knockdown, which prompted the referee to swiftly wave off the bout within the second spherical.
Smith watched on with concern as medical workers attended to Castillo, who was acutely aware and speaking after being taken from the ring on a stretcher.
Following the bout, promoter Eddie Hearn wrote on Twitter: “A horrible brutal knockout. Castillo is responsive and on his technique to hospital.”
After a factors defeat by Saul ‘Canelo’ Alvarez in December, Smith had determined to maneuver up in weight, and he was making his light-heavyweight debut in north London.
The Liverpudlian had landed a giant proper hook within the opening spherical, rapidly forcing Castillo onto the again foot.
Smith then introduced a sudden ending to the bout with no consideration hand dropped Castillo closely by the ropes.
