One of many many mysteries surrounding COVID-19 is the peculiar facet impact of sufferers shedding their sense of style and scent. Within the medical area, that is referred to as anosmia.
A much less publicized facet impact that may comply with in some COVID-19 sufferers is parosmia: when scents and flavors develop into distorted. There’s been comparatively little analysis into the issues, which till just lately have been exceptionally uncommon. That is left many sufferers feeling confused, remoted and hopeless.
Julie Carty wrote about her expertise with post-COVID parosmia in an essay printed in The San Diego Union-Tribune this week. She mentioned the dysfunction was devastating, even the scent of her new child child made her really feel sick to her abdomen.
