One of many College of Illinois’ best all-around athletes of the Nineteen Thirties was born on this date — June 6 — in 1912.
From September 1932 by way of March 1935, the title Frank Froschauer frequented tales that coated Combating Illini soccer and basketball.
As a member of Coach Bob Zuppke’s soccer staff from 1932 by way of ’34, the Lincoln native was a distinguished contributor from his half-back place. Racking up a 7-1 total document and ending 4-1 in Massive Ten Convention play, Froschauer’s senior-year staff was Zuppke’s final nice membership. It defeated Ohio State, Michigan and Military in succession, outscoring its eight foes 103-43.
On the basketball court docket, the 6-foot-1 Froschauer was much more proficient, main the staff in scoring throughout every of his three varsity campaigns from 1933-35. Froschauer was inducted into the Illinois Basketball Coaches Affiliation’s Corridor of Fame as a participant in 1976.
He retired in Inexperienced Bay, Wis., and died in April of 1985 on the age of 72.
