Alfred “Paul” Chapin III, 78, handed away peacefully on Could 29, 2021, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Amsterdam, NY, after a brave battle with most cancers. He was born in Waterbury, CT on January 23, 1943, the son of the late Alfred P. Jr. and Dorothy Dickinson. He was a highschool graduate and welder for Delaney Excavation in Mayfield, retiring in 2012.
He was an avid motocross fanatic with many trophies beneath his belt.
He had a “dream” to stay off the grid. He moved from Connecticut, discovered his 1850 homestead with a creek on the property and made his dream a actuality; off the grid for 40 years.
He’s survived by his spouse of 29 years, Janette (Jaros) Chapin; sons, Alfred P. (Jean) Chapin IV of Connecticut, Wesley (Hilary) Chapin of New Hampshire; daughters, Elizabeth Rossi of Pennsylvania, Jesse and Abby; stepsons, Edward (Jackie) Fox of Gloversville, Jeffrey (Janice) Fox of Nelliston; a number of grandchildren, nephews and nieces; and greatest pal, Aaron Howland.
He was predeceased by his brother, Larry Chapin; and stepdaughter, Larraine Chapin; and his beloved canine, Dolly.
